Still Rolling
Mick Jagger
They have become a couple of aging gentlemen. 'Young' Ronnie Woods, who is only 75 years old, plays guitar as he used to. 79-year-old Keith Richards is also 'still going strong'. And age president Mick Jagger is still able to deliver a vibrant stage performance.
And rumour has it that the three are planning a series of concerts again this year. Besides, Keith Richards and guitarist Ronnie Wood have announced a new album of brand new songs. An album scheduled for release this summer. But 2023 will also be the year where Mick Jagger turns a sharp corner. On July 26, he can celebrate his 80th birthday. It's impressive that he still manages to jump around on the big stages around Europe and in the United States. His voice may have become a little crisper and his movements a little more leisurely. But he's still kicking - and he can still thrill an audience of thousands of fans who find it hard to believe that the British rock icon is turning 80.
Got a New Heart Valve
His performance is even more impressive when you consider the fact that he had a heart valve replacement a few years ago. Even for younger patients, this can be a tough experience. But apart from the addition of a heart specialist to Mick Jagger's roadies, it's hard to imagine that the man is past 60! Of course, it takes its share when your girlfriend is almost 44 years younger than you. Since 2014, Mick Jagger has been in a steady relationship with 36-year-old Melanie Hamrick, a trained ballet dancer and choreographer at the American Ballet Theatre in New York. They had a child together in 2016. Jagger was 73 years old at the time.
For a lifetime, he has put his mark on the international rock scene. And he has received many praises along the way. Like when Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 16th on its list of the best singers of the century. In an article, Lenny Kravitz wrote: "I sometimes talk to people who technically sing perfectly but don't understand Mick Jagger. His pitch and melodic sense is really sophisticated. His voice is amazing and absolutely flawless in its own kind of perfection." Add to this his vitality on stage. As Bon Jovi said in an interview: "I can't really get over it... I'm dying on stage singing four songs. So how does he do it?"
Mick Jagger is perhaps one of the most youthful 80-year-olds we've yet seen. And hopefully the three remaining rolling stones will keep rolling for a while longer.
