Dress up or dress down, learn to master the relaxed style

The untraditional blazer

For many, the blazer is a very formal piece of clothing, and it’s only used for weddings and similar events. But one thing that can increase the coolness of a man’s outfit is, without a doubt, picking a blazer with a pattern or a different cut than a traditional one. This, combined with a shirt with the top two buttons unbuttoned, creates a classic but relaxed cool look. If you choose a patterned jacket, ensure that the shirt is a single colour to give it a more modern feel. Keep the colour scale to the same nuances and pair it with a solid-coloured pair of chinos and add a pair of loafers, which will show that you’ve thought about each and every detail.

Solid colour or a pattern

How your outfit is put together depends largely on the colours or if the clothes have patterns, such as stripes. If you’re attending something a bit more formal, keep to a solid-coloured blazer and shirt. If it’s not so formal, you can try out the various options your wardrobe offers. Try different shirts with different jackets and trousers and discover new opportunities you didn’t know you had. This is also a good idea to do before heading out to buy clothes the next time, to see what you actually need. You’re also welcome to bring your favourite jacket, trousers, etc with you to one of our stores, so we can help you find something that goes well with what you already have.

The overshirt – the perfect outfit “add on”

If you haven’t gotten to know the overshirt phenomenon yet, it’s about time. It’s one of those pieces of clothing that can bring your casual outfit to the next level. But what is an overshirt, really? It can be difficult to describe as there is no set definition of an overshirt. It’s something between a shirt and a jacket, and it’s a perfect way of adding more layers to your outfit. It can be styled with either a shirt or a t-shirt below, and possibly with a coat on top, depending on the weather. It works with both jeans and chinos and is therefore a good match for a casual outfit with a pair of solid-coloured sneakers. The advantage of an overshirt is that it works all year around, in the summer it can be used as a light summer jacket, and in the autumn and winter it’s an extra layer of your outfit.

Dresscode

For events such as weddings, milestone birthdays, and similar, dress code is often mentioned in the invitation. If it is, keep to the instructions and dress accordingly. This doesn’t mean that you should wear boring clothes, but that you’ve got a set of rules for choosing your outfit. At events such as these, you shouldn’t outshine the persons in the centre of it all, and therefore it’s the smaller things you can play around with, for example shoes, structure, or a subtle pattern on the shirt or jacket. We’ll look closer at this in an article about parties.
