How to Pack
1. Make a List
It’s always a good idea to have a packing list for the vacation, so that you’re sure you will bring what you need and not forget anything. It’s a good idea to think through what you’ll need, and what you’d like to wear the various days, you are away. A suggestion is to write a list on a piece of paper or on your phone: packing list weekend trip, packing list beach holiday, do-not-forget for the summer house, etcetera. That way you have an outline you can use for the next time you’re going away.
It’s a way of ensuring that you remember to bring your swimming trunks for the beach holiday, the shirt and the shoes for the business trip, an extra pair of shoes for all the extra walking on the metropolitan holiday, and so on.
2. Prepare
Think through what you’ll be doing, so you have a good idea about what pieces of clothing you’ll need. Check the weather forecast. It’s a good idea to pack clothes that will mix and match. That way you get more use out of what you pack, so you don’t need to pack as much, and you’ll not suddenly end up with nothing to wear if you spill something on your shirt.
We recommend that you, as a minimum, bring a pair of jeans, a pair of sand-colored chinos, a white shirt, a light blue shirt, potentially a polo shirt, and a blue blazer. These are pieces that you easily can mix as well as dress both up and down. Did you remember all the essential things: boarding pass, credit card, cash, phone, charger, headset, and such? It could be a good idea to keep the various things separated in smaller containers or zip lock bags, making them easier to find
3. Let’s Pack
When packing your clothes in your suitcase, it’s a good idea to put ties, an extra watch, belt, or other smaller things, in the extra pair of shoes to save space.
If you’re not all that good at folding clothes, it’s recommended that you roll them up instead. Depending on how you pack your suitcase, you can potentially fit more if the clothes are rolled as opposed to folded. It can also help prevent your clothes from being as wrinkled once you reach your destination and unpack.
It’s a good idea to start packing the heaviest things first. Start with, for examples, shoes or jeans. If you are packing in a suitcase with wheels, put these things at the bottom. It distributes the weight better, and makes the suitcase easier to maneuver, and it’ll stabilize everything you’re packing on top.
4. How Far Are You Going?
If you’re travelling far, it’s a good idea to pack a back-up bag, which you can bring as part of your cabin luggage, with the most essential things: toiletries, underwear, socks, a t-shirt, a shirt, and an extra pair of shoes.
If you’re travelling for work, and it is a short flight, you would do well to travel in your suit, or at least in the jacket, so you don’t have to pack it. It fills a lot in the suitcase, and it’ll be significantly less wrinkled from being travelled in compared to being stuffed in a suitcase.
Regardless of where you’re going, you should always bring a pair of sunglasses.
